A Belgian police identification team began searching Monday for new clues and possible bodies in the woods near the French border in an effort to conclude an investigation into confessed serial killer Michel Fourniret.

Police started the new dig, which is to last most of this week, in order to finish the investigation by the end of July, so that Fourniret might be tried early next year in France, media reported.

The search near the village of Saint-Cecile was launched after witnesses said they had seen someone digging in area's forest a few years ago.
