India said it was confident Friday of clinching a bid to stage the Asian Games in New Delhi in 2014.

"We are confident of securing the right to stage the 2014 Asian Games in New Delhi, bringing the event back to its birth place," said Suresh Kalmadi, president of the Indian Olympic Association.

New Delhi, which staged the inaugural Asian Games in 1951 and again in 1982, is pitted against the South Korean city of Incheon.

South Korea has also staged the Asian Games twice _ at Seoul in 1986, two years before the city hosted the Olympic Games, and in the port city of Busan in 2002.
