Article: OECD says Greek 2005 GDP growth will be lower than government forecast

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development cast doubt Thursday on Greece's forecast of an average gross domestic product growth rate of 4 percent between 2005 and 2007, and also warned of a pensions crisis.

"The assumption of an average GDP growth of 4 percent over the period 2005 to 2007 ... seems to be optimistic, given the substantial fiscal tightening envisaged," the OECD said in its economic report on Greece, published every two years.

In 2004 overall GDP growth was 4.2 percent.

The OECD predicts GDP growth will be 2.8 percent in 2005 and 3.2 percent in 2006 compared with Greek government forecasts of 3.9 percent and 4 ...
