I THINK MOST New Jerseyans are pleased the state will no longer rank dead last, tied with Montana, in the quadrennial schedule of presidential primaries. The only reservation that I hear is impatience.

What took the State House so long?

Couldn't the politicians see that the presidency is the most important job in the country? Why didn't they act sooner to move the New Jersey primary from too-late-to-matter June to February, when state voters can actually help decide who will run the country?
