Thailand on Monday urged North Korea to lift a ban on mobile phone service because the shutdown _ prompted by Pyongyang's fears the technology aided foreign spies _ was having a severe impact on a Thai-led joint venture.
Loxley Pacific, a three-way joint venture linking Thai-based Loxley PCL and Charoong Thai Wire and Cable Public Co. with Finland's Teltech, has invested US$3 million (euro2.5 million) on mobile phone infrastructure in North Korea since 2003.
But in May last year, Pyongyang shut off all service to the country.
The issue came up in talks between visiting North Korean Foreign Minister Paek Nam Sun and Thai officials.
