In 1998, Elease Walton was an administrator with the Elk Grove Unified
School District (EGUSD), in charge of the operations of not one, but two,
school sites. Today she's an administrative assistant; her boss is one of
her former subordinates.
Ms. Walton says a number of humiliating demotions prompted her, and about
30 others, to file a class action suit with the Equal Employment
Opportunity Commission, the state Attorney General's Office, the California
Department of Fair Employment and Housing, and the California Department of
Education in November 2004. That the threat of legal action hasn't ended
