Nearly 95 percent of Marion County homes utilize septic systems for sewage
and waste-water treatment. Improperly used or poorly maintained systems can
allow disease-causing bacteria, viruses and parasites into neighborhood
streams and ditches. Marion County Health Department (MCHD) officials
encourage all residents to learn about and practice basic septic system
maintenance to promote a safe, healthy and clean neighborhood.
