The last time Dotty Shafer stepped into Conrad's ice cream parlor was three decades ago.

"It hasn't changed," she said during a recent visit. "It's the same as when I started [working] here at 16."

Shafer, now 70 and living in Florida, still remembers her favorite flavor (butter pecan) or how to make a lemon ice cream soda with whipped cream and a cherry on top.
