(Daily Texan) (U-WIRE) THE WOODLANDS , Texas -- As a temporary replacement for a thum, a traditional African lyre that Gabriel Kuok played in a refugee camp in Kenya, he decides to buy a harmonica.
Gabriel was not at a dead end, however; he was given the card of a man who hand-makes guitars for the store. I ask if he wants a smoothie.
"What is that?" he asks.
The wall menu at the nearby Smoothie King towers before us with every fruit combination imaginable. Gabriel orders the first thing he sees on the menu: "Strawberry Extreme." I ask if he extremely likes strawberries.
"Sure," he says, shrugging. "I'll try it."
