NEW YORK--In ceremonies saluting the heritage of New York's Polish
Americans and their contribution to the city, Comptroller William C.
Thompson, Jr. paid special tribute to Dr. Jan Moor-Jankowski, a member of
the Downstate N.Y. Division of the Polish American Congress.
Dr. Moor-Jankowski is a retired professor of forensic medicine at New York
University's School of Medicine. He is the only American member of the
French Academy of Medicine.
Dr. Moor-Jankowski was born in Poland and lived through the German
occupation of his country during World War II. He fought against the Nazis
as part of the Polish underground army, Armia Krajowa (AK). After the
