Hong Kong shares ended higher Wednesday, tracking overnight gains on Wall Street as investors bought stocks in anticipation of strong first-half results to be released over the next several days.

The Hang Seng Index rose 63.79 points, or 0.4 percent, to 15,224.57 after trading between 15,205.99 and 15,271.21 during the session.

"The falling price of oil is giving investors more optimism for both the U.S. and Hong Kong markets, and that's the main reason why the shares are up today," said Francis Lun, general manager at Fulbright Securities.
