Democrat Fernando Ferrer will face Michael Bloomberg in the New York mayoral election on Nov. 8, after winning enough votes to avoid a primary runoff, election officials said Monday.
A majority of New Yorkers believe the incumbent Bloomberg will win a second term. The mayor, a lifelong Democrat until he changed parties when he entered politics in 2001, is popular in this left-leaning city where Republicans are outnumbered five-to-one.
