Fed: 80 million books sold in Australia in 03-04

CANBERRA, Sept 20 AAP - Australian bookworms snapped up more than 80 million new books
worth almost $1.5 billion in the 2003/04 financial year.

Of the 1,572 booksellers across Australia, the majority were newsagents, which sold
just six per cent of the stock, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

Most sales - 67 per cent - were through 561 bookshops, while five major department
