WA: Labor's illegal fishing claims petty and fanciful, govt says

PERTH, Sept 23 AAP - Labor claims that illegal fishing off Western Australia's coast
will cause the extinction of some species within 12 months are fanciful and part of a
petty political agenda, the federal government says.

Labor's fisheries spokesman Gavan O'Connor said today the government was not doing
enough to patrol WA's northern waters, while his WA counterpart warned some shark species
would perish if the illegal cull by mainly Indonesian fishermen continued.
