Boca Juniors edged Racing Club 2-0 on Sunday to lead in Argentina's first-division championship race. River Plate lost its third straight mach by a 1-0 margin to lowly Estudiantes.

Boca was alone at the top with 17 points after eight outings of the Abertura. Velez Sarsfield and Banfield were second with 16 points, followed by San Lorenzo, Independiente and Argentinos Juniors at 15.

Daniel Diaz headed in Boca's first goal against Racing in the 20th minute off a free kick by Federico Insua. Then Rodrigo Palacio booted in a right cross just before halftime. Boca's Juan Krupoviesa was expelled in the 67th for elbowing a rival.
