The European Central Bank is continuing to monitor the controversy surrounding Bank of Italy Governor Antoni Fazio, the institution's vice president said Friday.
Lucas Papademos, speaking at a press conference at the ECB's headquarters in the German financial capital, said the bank was looking into Fazio's conduct.
"We have to continue, and we are continuing, the process of monitoring and assessing, as we have in the past," he told reporters.
Fazio is reportedly being investigated for abuse of power for his role in a scandal related to rival bids for an Italian bank.
