This is TALK OF THE NATION. I'm Lynn Neary in Washington, sitting in for Neal Conan.
There was once a time when the unexpected happened on radio and perhaps no one remembers that time as well as Studs Terkel, who began his career in radio with the weekly music program called "The Wax Museum." Terkel got to play whatever he wanted, from opera to jazz to folk, an eclectic mix that reflected
no one's taste but his own. He went on to become well known for his oral histories of everyday life and the unsung hero. ...
