Reckitt Benckiser PLC has agreed to buy the consumer healthcare division of Boots Group PLC for 1.9 billion pounds (euro2.8 billion; US$3.4 billion), the companies announced Friday.
The price for Boots Healthcare International was significantly higher than the 1.2 billion pounds (euro1.75 billion; US$2.1 billion) forecast by analysts.
Boots, which announced a merger with Alliance Unichem PLC on Monday, had put the Healthcare business up for sale in April after deciding it wanted to focus on the performance of its 1,400 U.K. outlets.
