JAKARTA, Oct. 7, 2005 (IPS/GIN) -- While Indonesia has revised
its bird flu toll from six to three deaths since an outbreak in
June, authorities warn that conditions exist for a sudden,
devastating flare-up.
About 50 people are currently under observation in the
archipelago for suspected bird flu. The death toll was lowered
because the World Health Organization (WHO) laboratory in Hong Kong
had not tested and certified samples from three of the deaths.
Since Indonesia's first human case of bird flu infection was
discovered in June, 85 people have been admitted to hospital with
either suspected or confirmed bird flu infections.
