The European Union head office approved Finnish winter sports company Amer Group's purchase of Adidas AG's French unit Salomon on Thursday after the companies agreed to end close cooperation with a ski maker rival.

Amer competes directly against the world's largest manufacturer of cross-country skis, Austria's Fischer Gmbh, for customers in Austria, Germany and France.

EU regulators were concerned that Fischer's cooperation agreement with Salomon could allow Fischer and Amer to carve up the ski market.

Both Amer and Salomon make winter sporting goods like alpine and cross-country skis and accessories.
