NSW: Five years jail under new NSW animal cruelty laws

SYDNEY, Oct 18 AAP - People convicted of severe acts of animal cruelty could face up
to five years' jail under proposed laws unveiled by the NSW government.

The new laws, announced in parliament today by Premier Morris Iemma, come after a series
of attacks on animals earlier this year.

The government will introduce a new offence of aggravated animal cruelty which will
carry a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment.
