Spanish truck drivers ended a nationwide strike to protest high fuel costs and illegal drivers on its second day after the labor action raised fears of food and gasoline shortages.

A Development Ministry spokeswoman said the truckers would return to the job immediately.

There were no immediate details of what the government offered to end the strike after two-days of talks between ministry officials and truck drivers.

The open-ended strike began on Monday and hit the northwestern region of Galicia particularly hard hit, news reports said.
