Europe is well positioned to contain bird flu and prevent a feared human flu pandemic, health officials from the United Nations and European Union said at a bird flu strategy session Monday.

Health experts were meeting in Copenhagen to review readiness for a possible human pandemic as Croatia _ which lies in the path of migratory birds _ reported the deaths of 13 more swans.

The deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu has been confirmed in Russia, Romania and Turkey, and experts in Britain were trying to determine Monday whether six other Croatian swans found last week had H5N1.
