Bad fuel consumption

DEAR Paul,
I drive a Volvo 240GL sedan 1984 model. The original stock was 2.3L
5-speed manual with wheel size at 195/70 R14 (Yokohama) fitted with
original Volvo rims.
Two years back, I changed the engine and transmission box as the water
pump was not functioning properly. The car has also been fitted with 2.0L
mechanical fuel injection 4-speed automatic transmission. All other parts
are original.
All these problems started six months ago. Until today, my mechanic
fails to fix them.
My problems are:
1) The odometer gives different readings compare to other vehicles. I
did a comparison test ...
