Article: Duke students facing insomnia turn to sleeping pills

(The Chronicle) (U-WIRE) DURHAM, N.C. -- For most Duke University students, sleeping plays second fiddle to Thursday night revelry and midnight Rick's Diner runs.

Most students do not realize, however, that lost hours of sleep may very well lead to insomnia.

Although often associated with adults, insomnia is now prevalent among college students, who are notorious for their erratic sleep schedules.

"I've definitely had students fall asleep in my class," said Lisa Diedrich, a professor of women's studies at State University of New York at Stony Brook.

She said sleep deprivation was common for her students.
