The remains of an adult woman have been found at a salvage yard owned by the family of a man who was wrongly convicted of rape 20 years ago, authorities said Thursday.

Investigators had been searching for 25-year-old Teresa Halbach, who was last seen Oct. 31. Authorities have not identified the bone fragments and teeth found at the salvage yard owned by the family of Steven Avery.

"It appears that an attempt was made to dispose of a body by an incendiary means. However, that attempt was not completely successful," Calumet County Sheriff Jerry Pagel said.
