Qld: First anniversary of Palm Island death in custody

BRISBANE, Nov 18 AAP - Family and friends of a Palm Island man who died in police custody
will hold a prayer vigil tomorrow to mark the first anniversary of his death.

The death on November 19, 2004, of Mulrunji Doomadgee sparked a riot one week later
on the north Queensland island.

Mulrunji's death is still being investigated by the state coroner.

Initial autopsy results which showed Mulrunji had a ruptured liver and four broken
ribs ignited a massive riot in which protesters burned down the Palm Island police station
and courthouse.
