Israeli officials have assured Turkey that any Israelis training Kurds in northern Iraq would have acted on their own, without their government's permission, an official said Sunday.
Israel's Yediot Ahronot newspaper reported on Dec. 1 that former Israeli security officials have trained Kurds secretly in northern Iraq in anti-terror tactics. Similar reports have surfaced in the past, causing concern in Turkey, which is Israel's closest ally in the region.
An Israeli embassy official, who asked not to be identified, said the embassy could not confirm the Yediot Ahronot report.
