Belgium handed over to France the wife of confessed serial killer Michel Fourniret on Tuesday wanted for her role in the suspected killings of 19 people who police believe were murdered by her husband.
Philippe Morandini, a magistrate in the southern city of Dinant, confirmed that Monique Olivier had been handed over to French police at the Belgian-French border, where she was taken into custody for arraignment.
Morandini said the extradition of her husband could follow within weeks. "As soon as we have found the right legal way, we hope to extradite Fourniret ... as soon as possible," he told VTM television.
