Bulgarian authorities are considering options to continue the Balkan country's military presence in Iraq after the withdrawal of its current military contingent by the year's end, the army chief-of-staff said Wednesday.

In May, Bulgaria's parliament voted to cut the number of troops in Iraq from 460 to 400 and to continue their mission through the end of 2005. Officials have said the country will maintain its military presence until next week's parliamentary elections in Iraq.
