WA: New guidelines released to protect black cockatoos
PERTH, Dec 13 AAP - The West Australian government hopes guidelines designed to protect
the black cockatoo will also end tensions between orchid growers and hills residents.
Environment Minister Judy Edwards today launched a range of measures designed to address
the critically endangered black cockatoo causing crop damage.
The guidelines also aim to find solutions to end tensions between fruit growers and
residents, brought closer by increasing urban development in the Perth hills and at odds
over the use of noisy gas guns by orchids to scare the cockatoos away.
