Qld: Courts ignore animal cruelty: RSPCA

BRISBANE, Dec 28 AAP - Queensland's courts are turning a blind eye to animal cruelty,
the RSPCA says.

The state's magistrates were far too lenient on animal cruelty this year and they were
not using their power to enforce tougher penalties introduced four years ago, the welfare
group's Queensland branch said.

RSPCA state chief inspector Bryon Hall today said community pleas for harsher animal
cruelty punishment had been ignored.

"The Queensland Government introduced the toughest penalties for animal cruelty in
Australia in 2001," Mr Hall said.
