Fed: Four deaths in three states lift national road toll to 36

SYDNEY, Dec 31 AAP - The national holiday road toll has risen to 36, after four people
died today in three states.

In a tragic end to 2005, there were two road deaths in Queensland and one each in South
Australia and Victoria.

A man in his 70s died in a head-on collision in Victoria's east at about 11am (AEDT)
approximately 5km east of Stratford on the Princes Highway, police said.

A woman in her 60s was airlifted to The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne suffering pelvic
and abdominal injuries after being trapped for some time in the wreckage, an ambulance
spokesman said.
