Hartmut Rathje, longtime captain of the Scotia Prince, died last week in Florida aboard his latest ship, the Discovery Sun.

Rathje, who was 65, served as captain of the Scotia Prince for 18 years, skippering the international ferry during its regular runs between Portland and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Rathje was popular with the passengers and with his crew, say colleagues and others who knew him.
