The advent of the mega-church has fueled a significant turn from classical
worship forms to contemporary expressions. Instead of taking a seat on a
pew in the sanctuary, millions of parishioners now crowd by the thousands
into worship centers, where in virtually all cases the order of worship is
simplified, the liturgy streamlined, and the music performed by bands and
praise teams, the words beamed onto overhead projectors.

Mainline Protestants are witnessing an increasing demand by congregants for
religious practices that resonate with the pace of the twenty-first
