With a slow but steady increase in the number of avian (bird) flu cases
reported in countries across Asia and Europe, more individuals are
beginning to wonder if U.S. cities, including Indianapolis, are prepared to
respond to a potential widespread outbreak of the virus.

After the controversial response to Hurricane Katrina last month many
citizens are uncertain about the federal government's ability to respond to
a possible bird flu pandemic. Likewise, medical professionals throughout
the nation have a similar concern.

Almost half of America's physicians (42 percent) believe that the federal
government is "very unprepared" to deal with a bird flu ...
