Spain's Telefonica SA and Venezuela's CANTV were among four firms to express interest in bidding for Colombia's biggest telephone company, which the government intends to privatize.

The two telecoms paid US$17,000 (euro14,000) each to obtain information about Colombia Telecom, which the government promised to auction by the end of the first quarter, the president's office said in a statement late Thursday.
