Devra Laserson wanted her bat mitzvah to be something different and unique.
Instead of coming up with a clever theme for her party, she found a way to
lead prayers exclusively for women at Green Road Synagogue. She is at the
forefront of a trend of Orthodox girls finding creative ways to bring
prayer to their ceremonies.

"I thought it would be more memorable for me," she says, as she flips
through a photo album at her dining room table, crowded with sheet music
and homework.
