Vic: Victoria Police slammed for slow alert on murder suspect

MELBOURNE, Feb 2 AAP - Victoria Police was today blasted for failing to notify interstate
authorities that the man suspected of killing two Melbourne sisters was on the run.

William John Watkins, 38, was shot dead by a West Australian policeman on Tuesday after
he bashed the officer when pulled over for failing to pay for petrol.

Victoria Police issued a state-wide alert for Watkins on Tuesday afternoon after the
discovery on Monday night of bloodstained clothes in his apartment.
