Not for the first time at a Winter Games, an Australian gold medalist has been confused with an athlete from the Alpine stronghold of Austria.

A breaking news flash on Dale Begg-Smith's triumph in the men's moguls on Wednesday credited Austria with an Olympic gold medal.

The error was soon noticed and fixed.

There was some minor confusion in Salt Lake City four years ago, when Australia won its first gold medals at an Olympic Winter Games via Alisa Camplin in the women's aerials and Steven Bradbury in the men's 1,000-meter short track speedskating.
