Conjoined twin girls sharing the same heart who were born to a 24-year-old woman from quake-hit Kashmir over the weekend have died within hours of each other, a doctor said Monday.

The girls, Sharbat Gula and Khanda Gula, were born Saturday after the mother made a marathon journey from her mountain village to a hospital in Muzaffarabad.

She had triplets, including a healthy baby boy, but doctors had warned that the girls, joined from the chest to abdomen, had little chance of survival. The first died on Sunday afternoon, and the second by the late evening.
