For as long as I can remember, a clamor has been raised about the
proliferation of yellow flags in current football games.

That goes for college and professional contests. Even Super Bowl players,
coaches and spectators became frustrated when a flag was thrown by an
official 20-25 yards away, a penalty assessed for an alleged infraction no
one else saw.

Protests follow, requesting review by instant replay cameras. Four to five
minutes later, the fellow wearing the white cap that identifies him as the
referee steps into the boom light and proudly announces that the on-field
ruling was correct; rarely is there a reversal.

So the flags keep falling.
