Fed: Good manners to play God Save the Queen, says PM

CANBERRA, March 2 AAP - Playing God Save the Queen in the presence of the monarch is
just good manners, Prime Minister John Howard says.

Commonwealth Games organisers will not play Britain's national anthem when Queen Elizabeth
opens the games in Melbourne on March 15.

Mr Howard said it was appropriate that when the Queen was present God Save the Queen was played.

He said it was the protocol laid down when Advance Australia Fair was made the Australian
national anthem in 1984.

"When Her Majesty attends a dinner here, God Save the Queen will be played, it's just
a matter of good manners ... ...
