Britain's monarch will get to hear God Save the Queen after all at the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony.
Games officials said Friday that New Zealand opera star Dame Kiri Te Kanawa will sing about eight bars of God Save the Queen in a musical tribute to Queen Elizabeth II at the opening ceremony on March 15 in Melbourne.
Organizers denied the move was a compromise following calls, backed by Prime Minister John Howard, for the British national anthem to be played when Queen Elizabeth officially opens the games.
