The campaign to force Thailand's prime minister to resign has gathered steam with fresh protests and the national police spokesman's surprise announcement that he also wants Thaksin Shinawatra to step down.

Thousands of protesters gathered late Tuesday for the third straight evening to hear speakers denounce Thaksin for alleged corruption and abuse of power.

Earlier Tuesday, several dozen anti-government demonstrators went to the Singaporean Embassy to protest a massive business deal Thaksin's family concluded with a Singaporean state company.
