Just like most girls, my favorite parts of preparing for my bat mitzvah
were shopping for the perfect dress, practicing in the sanctuary, and
knowing that the day was going to be all about me. Stacy Friedman, the main
character in Fiona Rosenbloom's novel You Are So Not Invited to My Bat
Mitzvah, who couldn't bear to hear her voice coming from the bimah, seems
to agree with me on all but one of those activities - practicing on the
bimah. But I could even empathize with Stacy on that feeling, too, because
just like Stacy, my singing voice is ...
