GOLF:Longer Augusta National could mean doom for back-nine drama

AUGUSTA, Georgia, April 2 AFP - Some of golf's greatest players fear that stretching
fabled Augusta National into the second-longest course in major championship history could
rob the Masters of its traditional back-nine drama.

"It's going to take a bit of the excitement away, definitely," said South African star
Ernie Els, who staged a thrilling back-nine birdie battle in 2004 with eventual winner
Phil Mickelson.

"That kind of golf, I don't think that's going to happen that often anymore because
the holes are getting so long. It's going to narrow the field ...
