Extraordinary Pianist Performs at Macalester College

St. Paul's Frederic Chopin Society has presented many fine performance
artists over the years, but a more engaging pianist than Hung-Kuan Chen is
difficult to imagine. His Sunday afternoon concert at Macalester College's
Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center February 5th made an impression on Twin
Cities' listeners they will nor soon forget.

The three large works he chose not only demonstrated the tremendous range
and deft quality of his playing, but, subconsciously or not, seemed to
mirror the artist himself. A melancholy melody wandered through Mozart's
Rondo in A minor, K. 511, followed by Schubert's angry Sonata in C Minor,
D. 958, concluding with the explosive joy ...
