Dr. William Banfield has been appointed as professor of Africana
Studies/Music and Society at Berklee College of Music. In this position,
Banfield will develop and teach undergraduate courses that focus on the
history, culture, and meaning of black music.

Banfield started his undergraduate studies at Boston's New England
Conservatory of Music and fondly remembers playing his guitar along the
streets and in the subways of the city for pocket money. He first taught in
the Boston Public schools. So, it's fitting, then, that he would return to
Boston, the place where he made the initial decision to "imbue kids with
the social and spiritual meanings of the music," to pursue ...
