(Daily Toreador) (U-WIRE) LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas' Children's Health Insurance Program, better known as CHIP, has seen dropping enrollment in figures so drastic that a spokesperson for the Texas Health and Human Services Commission estimated the program has shed 30,000 children since Dec.1.
The insurance program stands as the Lone Star State's health insurance program for children whose families' incomes are dually too high to qualify for Medicaid and too low to afford private health insurance coverage, said Gail Randall of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.
